Numbnut and Food
Butter CookiesIt wasn't my first time baking. Yet, I made a stupid, stupid mistake that even a beginner probably won't make. Is this the result of being overconfident? A week ago, before my exams, I decided to bake butter cookies to relax. Good way to take your mind off the exams. So I searched for the ingredients. I had unsalted butter, sugar, superfine flour and all the other necessary items. It started off well. The first batch of cookies looked good too. Since this is the first time I'm using a small microwave oven to bake, instead of the usual large convection oven, the cookies turned out pretty well, despite them being slightly brown. So I took ONE big bite.
The first thing that came to my mind was, "THE HELL?! I used unsalted butter!" And I took another smaller bite, and thought, "Hey...wait a minute, even normal butter won't be this salty..." Then my eyes widened. I ran to the tub of sugar, stuck my finger in and tasted it...I spat it out. SALT! >.< Then only I realized, castor sugar looks very much like fine salt. I have no idea WHY I didn't taste it before using it. Very unlikely of me to do that. From now on, I shall taste my sugar/salt before using it.
Chicken ala Kiev
Today is one of those rare days whereby I have to go out for lunch. Since I've been hearing how good Souled Out is, I have decided to eat there for lunch. Yes, I have been working here for almost two years, but I haven't eaten at the famous Souled Out before this.
The waiters and waitresses wore santa hats and reindeer hairbands since it's the festive season. There weren't many people lunching outdoors downstairs, as most of them are at the second floor, escaping the afternoon heat. I really dislike the stairs as I feel insecure climbing it. Fortunately, I reached the top without making a fool of myself. After being seated, I was given the menu. Twice, I was asked if I would like to have the tempura set lunch. Does it seem a though as I don't understand what they are talking about? Ah, well. I guess I do look a little blur (late nights courtesy of Naruto).
I decided to eat Chicken ala Kiev. Somehow, the description of that dish made me think of how my dear, perverted friend, Darke, would have reacted upon seeing the description. "Chicken legs wrapped around sausage with melted cheese in between" He would have burst out laughing. Innuendos... Well, to those of you who don't get it, it's ok, do continue being pure in mind and pure in heart. Overall, my lunch was pretty satisfying. I paid about RM23 for the Chicken ala Kiev + one glass of warm chinese tea.
Turkey
A client of mine decided to treat us to a Chrismas lunch, on a non Christmas Eve/Christmas day. One of the conditions? Must have turkey. So I looked around for restaurants which will serve turkey on a non Christmas Eve/Christmas day. Not that easy. I phoned one shop, Chilli Padi Cafe to ask if we could have what we wanted. The recipient spoke in Cantonese and I started panicking. How do I ask for turkey dishes on a non Christmas Eve/Christmas day in Chinese?! Fortunately, she understood. Or at least I think she understood. Until she started talking about their Christmas Eve Set Dinner. I tried explaining to her again, and I went "I want at least ONE turkey dish, but NOT on Christmas Eve OR Christmas day". I had to refrain from saying "I WANT TURKEY" like a spoilt brat throwing tantrum. Finally, she got the message and said that there won't be any turkey dishes UNTIL Christmas Eve. Sigh.
Chocolate Smelling Perfume
I don't use perfume. Sugi was suprised. I'm not tempted to buy perfume either. Unless of course, it smells like food and comes with a discount. So last night, I bought chocolate smelling perfume from Body Shop and I got 22% discount, all thanks to Sugi Wugi. Of course the comments I got from Sugi and my sister were that I smelt delicious and the guys will be tempted to eat me (pervert!) and those around me will probably feel hungry.
I don't deny the delicious and hungry part...right now, I smell like as though as I've accidentally spilled a cup of hot chocolate on myself. :D CHOCOLATEY GOODNESS!
